Ancient Greek Musical Scores: A Documented Re-Evaluation of the Sources

Ancient Greek Musical Scores: A Documented Re-Evaluation of the Sources

After the thorough and comparative examination of the evidence bearing the ancient Greek scores, and most importantly in the light of the in-situ inspection of the sources, during the last three and a half years in the course of the project DiAGRAM, a certain number of musical readings has been re-evaluated. To what extent can the new palaeographical evidence be reconciled with our understanding of ancient music composition? To what extent are we allowed to reconsider our understanding of the ancient scores enlightened by the new possible readings? Inquiries of this sort will be raised in the proposed presentation, while plausible answers will be attempted in particular cases of contested earlier interpretations.
