Il team REM@KE è lieto di invitarvi alla quarta sessione del ciclo di seminari online Rem@ke Permanent Seminar Series, che si terrà venerdì 22 maggio, dalle 17:00 alle 18:30.

Vi aspettiamo su Zoom assieme al nostro prossimo guest speaker, Robert Bigio (costruttore di flauti con sede a Londra, ricercatore e flautista professionista), che discuterà con noi una presentazione dal titolo:

“Realtà e finzione nella riproduzione dei flauti antichi”

In questo seminario affronteremo questioni cruciali sul ciclo di vita e sull’eredità degli strumenti musicali. Quando riproduciamo un flauto storico, dovremmo puntare alla versione originaria appena uscita dal laboratorio o allo strumento "maturo" diventato tale dopo anni di utilizzo?

Robert Bigio metterà in discussione le nostre convinzioni sul modello "ideale" per la riproduzione, invitandoci a riflettere su:

  • L’impatto dell’esecutore: le modifiche apportate dai musicisti nel tempo hanno effettivamente migliorato il design dello strumento?
  • Il paradosso dello stato di conservazione: un flauto antico in "eccellenti condizioni" è segno di qualità o è stato semplicemente lasciato inutilizzato perché era uno strumento mediocre?
  • Il valore dell’usura: un flauto in cattive condizioni potrebbe essere in realtà il modello definitivo — uno strumento così eccezionale da essere stato suonato fino quasi alla distruzione?

Riesaminando il modo in cui valutiamo i flauti storici, potremmo scoprire di aver guardato agli strumenti antichi da una prospettiva completamente diversa.

La presentazione sarà seguita da una sessione di domande e risposte (Q&A).

The REM@KE Team is pleased to invite you to the 4th session of our Permanent Seminar Series on Friday, May 22, from 17:00 to 18:30 CEST (16:00–17:30 BST).

Join us on Zoom for an insightful lecture by our guest speaker, Robert Bigio (London-based flute maker, researcher, and professional flautist), titled:

“Reality and fiction in reproducing early flutes”

In this seminar, we will address thought-provoking questions about the lifecycle and legacy of musical instruments. When we reproduce a historical flute, should we aim for the pristine version that first left the workshop, or the seasoned instrument it became after years of use?

Robert Bigio will challenge our assumptions about the "ideal" model for reproduction, inviting us to consider:

  • The Performer’s Impact: Did modifications made by players over time actually improve the instrument’s design?
  • The Paradox of Condition: Is an antique flute in "excellent condition" a sign of quality, or was it simply left unplayed because it was a poor instrument?
  • The Beauty of Wear: Could a flute in poor condition actually be the ultimate model—an instrument so exceptional it was played nearly to destruction?

By re-examining how we evaluate historical flutes, we may find that we have been looking at early instruments from a completely different perspective.
